In creating a presentation on my journey into wine, I was remembering my first days with the winemakers at Sterling Vineyards – Theo Rosenbrand and Bill Dyer – falling in love with all things wine-related – the cellar, the vineyards, the sharing ideas and their questions, and of course, the other part of a winery – the tasting room hospitality – Questions they asked and I looked for visual answers:
Do wines from grapes grown on Diamond Mountain look different from the valley floor.
SO I fell in LOVE with the vineyard and the spirits hidden in a drop of wine. I’m always asked what are these pictures – people often want a scientific answer. Yet like wine, a result of art and technical know how – these expressions from microscopic explorations of wine are art reflecting technical know -how – mine and the wine growers.
Wines grow – they grow up – they grow bigger and more complex as they mature. Some take a long time to evolve yet may still show elegance early on along with hints of surprises yet to come. And wines also lose their dignity and vitality and we can see that too. I have had the benefit of this strange passion – looking into wine and I welcome an adventurous winery to join with me to explore the meaning in the beauty within your wines. Let’s get started this harvest 2016.
