My friend Rabbi David White  (co-founder of WineSpirit) in teaching about wine and life has a wonderful question –
What are you saving it for?
IT could be a bottle of wine you brought back from Italy.
A special piece of chocolate.
A year old pie in the freezer.

The first time I asked that question to myself, it was about a new chef’s knife I bought for more money than I’d ever spent on a knife.
Yet I didn’t use the knife.  I’d see it in the drawer but picked up the older inferior knife instead.  What was I  saving it for? For a special meal I’d be cooking for someone else, not for myself.

Finally after about a month owning the knife and not taking it out of its box
I asked myself – what are you saving it for –

And suddenly the special meal became every meal even when it was ‘only’ for me.  I stopped saving the knife for fear of using it up….

How expansive it was to begin to use the knife.  It was  perfect, lighter, sharper, fit my hand better than the old one  and yet  I would still put the new knife back in hibernation and use the inferior knife until I would remember to ask – WHAT ARE YOU SAVING IT FOR?

David’s question is ALSO a very useful one to ask about
our own energy – are we hoarding it, sharing it, building it with others?

So how do you want to use your energy….

Each of us has a gift of energy and here is where our cells  store energy –

in this beautiful molecule called Creatine Phosphate

This is what it looks like under the microscope…

We only have a few minutes of energy stored in our muscles before more must be made. Our invisible cells churn out about 3 pounds of energy every day.  Amazing Wonders.  BTW Most organic molecules with phosphate as part of its name are related to cellular energy production and storage.
