I’ve been thinking about work, working for others, leaving a legacy for the future, and balancing work, play and relaxation. I must admit I’m not so good at balance yet had an interesting mind shift the other day.
Sometimes when I ‘work for money’ there is an underlying resentment that it’s taking away from my “real” work and I just want to get it done. Considering that money is necessary, working is too.
The other day as I began one of my ‘work for hire’ gigs, a whole new mindset fluttered in – I just wanted to give the client the best I could, make his work shine. Don’t get me wrong, I always work hard to do a good job but more with goal of completion, rather than contribution. I worked with a smile and had fun, had fun doing what before held a lot of EFFORT.
Later I wondered what caused the difference in my attitude – besides gratitude for being able to work – I had been doing a daily exercise since the beginning of this new year. I had been doing it on and off for years, but this time there were no OFFs.
Basically I was ‘testing’ one of the ‘body prayers’ that I’ve included in my upcoming book Secrets of Your Cells. And it worked to shift the concept of ME.
What this proved to me – by staying consistent with an intent without being attached to the outcome (as Angie Arrien would say) change can happen, when you least expect it. My intent was to doing the practice, the body prayer everyday. Outcome is a new outlook.
May your soul blossom like the rose petal above.
How we think determines so much of what happens to us. Sometimes we are unaware of the most powerful truths about ourselves, that each of us has soul. … Awakening to your soul, you begin to learn another way of being in the world. The old barriers no longer confine you, the old wounds no longer name you, and the fears no longer claim you. … The old patterns do not evaporate, but become transformed under the persuasion of the soul’s new affection.
~ from John O’Donohue’s “The Soul of Blessing”
What the shift in our minds mean, attitude affects behavior, towards self and others. It also influences how a medical diagnosis is handled – Here’s a study talking about perception (attitude) and healing.
