If there were no internal propensity to unite… in the molecule itself it would be physically impossible for love to appear higher up, with us.  By rights… we should assume its presence… in everything that is…

Teilhard de Chardin ~The Phenomenon of Man

Just imagine that you are a single cell looking for another.  You connect, feel safe and merge membranes to become more than your self.

Of course, we are not single cells we are a community of  trillions of cells working, cooperating, connecting with one another in infinite ways.  Each cell has about a million different reactions going on fueled by its wisdom and your actions and thoughts. More abilities than it takes to fly a jet.

We can influence our cells by what we eat (feeding them), what we think (nourishing them) and what we believe.  The esteemed author-scientist Bruce Lipton says, in fact, that we can change our genes by our thoughts.  Whether with our minds we can change the expression of our genes or our cells’ abilities still needs years of research.  Yet we don’t need to wait for the science to take a moment of gratitude for all that our cells do for us.  Cells R Us – at least the physical parts.

And yet, they contain wisdom of the ages, teachings from spiritual traditions and complicated mechanical actions.  Take some time to love your cells, to thank them, to embrace them.  As the above quote from theologian-biologist Pierre Teilhard  de Chardin states love is part of us all the way down to our molecules.  Because they embrace and connect, we can, too.  Nobel Laureate Christian de Duve tells us that  molecular complementarity, how molecules fit together (embrace) is basis to all of biology.

So how do we fit together?  With rough edges or smooth, welcoming  or disgruntled angry  faces, with fear and distrust or open to discussion?  After revisiting the 911 tragedies and rebirths, I think it’s time we remember how we are all part of this one giant cell called Earth and find ways to embrace or at least listen to one another, and remember one of the reasons we are here is to love.  At the end of each day, have we taken a moment to love?
