When I first began writing about the deeper mysteries in our cells, I called it “the cellular shaman.”

Since I had studied with a shaman, immersed myself in the teachings of other ways of knowing the world, I took that experience into what I knew about our cellular universe.

Shapeshifting was where I started. Everyone knows the myths and magic of stories about shape shifters as revealed by Carlos Casteneda, as well as Harry Potter. But few know that our cells shift shape as well.

More than a decade ago, in the same month, articles appeared in the Scientific American (Donald Ingber) and Yoga Journal (Casteneda) using an unusual term – tensegrity.  Casteneda’s article stated that if we moved our bodies in certain ways that he called tensegrity movements (Magical Passes) we’d shift consciousness and even our form.   Donald Ingber’s article talked about breakthrough science of cellular tensegrity – that if we changed the tension (and form) of living cells, it would also change the genetic expression and whether the cell would reproduce, mature or die.

The key player in the cell’s anatomy was/is the cytoskeleton or web-like matrix spanning throughout the cell.  Scientists such as Stuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose theorize that hidden in the tubes of this matrix is “consciousness.”

So what does this have to do with REAL LIFE?

Consider that most of your trillions of cells have the ability to shapeshift what they are able to manifest physically as well as in the realm of consciousness.  And you can help them with movement, dance, stretching, humming, releasing tension.  We can help our cells change as they nurture and support our change.

We will explore more of the cellular shaman in my Cells and the Sacred workshops.  The next one is July 8-10 at Earthrise Retreat Center.  The book will be out next year  to be published by Sounds True.
